It’s The New Not New Mercedes GLE Coupe, Revised, Refreshed And Rehashed
Auto News

As we return from our holidays we got news of yet another Mercedes AMG variant. Mercedes have updated the 2019 GLE Coupe, it’s a derivative of the GLE SUV with a coupe bodystyle look. So the bog-standard GLE gets new exterior styling updates. New front and rear bumpers, new front and rear headlights. You won’t notice the details too much. The biggest difference is with the interior which drops the manifestly disgusting previous generation interior for the much more swanky GLE SUV interior.

At the launch, the 2019 GLE Coupe will be offered with 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel engines in the form of the 350d and 400d. At a later date, the 2019 GLE Coupe will be offered with a plug-in-hybrid version. Petrol versions will get the latest 48V mild-hybrid system, thus improving reducing emissions and improving efficiency. Theoretically speaking.

AIRMATIC air suspension and the E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL active suspension is optional. Although the latter two have been retuned to deliver better ride and handling. The only petrol version at launch will be the AMG GLE 53 4Matic Coupe. This is where the real attention is.

The AMG GLE 53 is powered by a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder twin-turbocharged petrol engine. Power is rated at 435bhp and 384lb ft of torque. The 48V mild-hybrid systems adds an extra 22bhp, but only at short bursts. This allows the AMG GLE 53 to hammer the 0-62mph time in 5.3 seconds with a limited top speed of 155mph.

AMG RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension with AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL is standard. As are Electro-mechanical roll stabilisation and continuously variable adjustable damping. The AMG GLE 53 also has several drive modes Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Individual, Trail and Sand.

Of course, the AMG GLE Coupe will be visually distinguished by a more passive-aggressive AMG specific body-kit. The new GLE Coupés will be previewed at Frankfurt Motorshow in mid-September. They will arrive at the dealerships in spring 2020.
