The Lamborghini Countach is Back After 31 Year Absence
Auto News

Well, this is a surprise, albeit in the age of the internet a short-lived surprise. As usual, yet another mysterious internet leak confirmed the resurrection of the legendary Bertone designed Lamborghini Countach. The mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive Countach is one of the defining supercars, perhaps of all time. And now after 50 years since the Countach was first introduced, it is being re-made. Lamborghini is intent to celebrate the Countach legacy and it is also a great marketing vehicle, literally.

Word on the street is that Countach will borrow running gear from the Sian Hypercar which means a 6.5-litre, 808bhp/720Nm mild-hybrid engine. The Sian features an electric motor integrated into the gearbox that provides 25 kW (33bhp) to the total power output. It’s meant to lower emissions, but with a fuel economy of 15mpg… yeah right. But anyway the Countach is being revived and in a way, we all get to re-live the b-of the Countach bang.

Countach production ran from 1974-1990 with a total of 1,983 vehicles produced. However, the new Countach will be somewhat of a limited edition model. Only 63 examples of the Sian were ever made. The $3M sticker price did little to deter buyers because the Sian sold out within minutes of launch. So expect the Countach to be limited to a similar number and cost around $3M per unit.

Times have changed and so has the buyer profile, you are going to have to be a high-net-worth individual to own a new Countach when it goes on sale in 2022. But you can buy a used example at a relatively affordable price. The final 25th Anniversary edition model series can be had for $400K.
