This is the new Toyota Yaris Cross. It will debut in 2021 and redefine the subcompact/crossover/mini/very small/something/SUV. But fear not if you think the Yaris supermini is dead, it is still very much alive and will sit alongside the Yaris Cross as a model alternative should you not want a higher-riding vehicle.
The Yaris Cross is longer, wider taller than it’s Yaris counterpart which is boom time if you want more space but not necessarily a big SUV. The Yaris Cross will offer many features and comforts afforded across the Yaris brand. You want an electric tailgate? that’s model-dependent or an optional extra. Etc, etc, etc.
The UK spec Yaris Cross will be powered by a 114bhp 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder petrol (gasoline) hybrid. All-Wheel Drive will be offered, depending on the model trim. Toyota claims CO2 emissions of 135g for AWD variants and 120g/km for 2WD variants.
Toyota is aiming for a first-year production run of 150,000 unit sales. No word yet on the price but expect to pay a £2,000 premium over the Yaris supermini.
