This is the 2020 Audi Q3 Sportback, a compact crossover SUV. It is a Q3 through and through but with a second body style derivative. Everything that the Q3 offers is offered in the Q3 Sportback. Same engine line up, same model trims, etc. But expect a higher asking price. There are minor exterior styling differences, the major one being the more rakish rear. Yes, it is more coupe-esque in appearance. We reckon the sloping rear section will cause head-room issues as well as curtail the loading capacity compared to the Q3 proper.
The Audi marketing people should have called the Q3 Sportback “ditto” because the interior is carried over from the Q3 proper. Same 10.25-inch digital instrument binnacle, same 10.1-inch infotainment system. Same interior everything.
Of course, you may get slight differences with interior trim options and upgrades. But don’t expect a great difference. If you are familiar with the Q3 proper than there really isn’t much to report here. Other than the styling differences.
To be honest the Q3 Sportback “ditto” looks a bit awkward from some angles. if I were buying into the Q3 range I would go for the more practical and better looking Q3 proper. So why did Audi decide to make the Q3 Sportback “ditto”?
It’s about numbers. Audi wants to increase sales, offering more models allows them to do just that. More models mean more sales. More sales mean more profits. Just as long as there is the demand of course. But Audi has never had an issue with demand.
… actually, it doesn’t look too bad, no?
