Are you one of those habitual drivers who say a prayer before sitting in the car and think he or she is safe? While you think you are safe, clad with your seat belt tightly across your chest and lap, your tires may have other plans for you. Remember that your tires functionality is important for your safety and the performance of your car.
Over a period of time, tires tend to lose traction and silently buzz for a tire replacement appointment. If no attention is paid to them, then you are in for a surprise with a potential puncture. These tire problems can lead to even worse consequences, especially if you’re driving on a highway or fast-track lanes.
If you’re freaking out thinking, “I wish there were
tire shops near me right now!” Well, bid adieu to stress with this ultimate safe driving guide to tell you top warning signs you need a new tire.
1. Tread Depth is Wearing Away
Tread depth should always be more than 1/16 of an inch (1.6 millimeters) and a bit more of at least 1/10th of an inch (2.8 millimeters) is even better. There should be enough rubber for a better grip. If you live in an area that is prone to rain, then you should have more tread depth as deeper tread deflects water.
A quick test to check if you have enough tread is to take a penny and insert it downsides. If the upper side is still visible, that’s a reason for an immediate tire change because you don’t have enough tread.
2. Bulges, Cuts, and Blisters Are an Indicator of Impending Tire Replacement
Tires have an age limit and, if it exceeds that age, then they get weakened to a point that blisters and bulges are visible. Think of the infection you may get if a cut on your hand is ignored. Similarly, the weak cuts on the tires may not seem of a big deal initially. However, they will blow out if ignored.
3. Beware of Sidewall Cracks or Indentations
Something you want to be wary of is sidewall cracks, which are easy to identify and can be seen as grooves in the sides of your tires. Sidewall cracks should be treated immediately to prevent leakage or even a blowout. If you feel that the sidewall cracks are purring your safety at risk, consult a tire store or mechanic immediately.
4. Unstoppable Vibration
There is a certain amount of vibration you can feel while driving, and this can become exacerbated on a bumpy road. If your tires can’t stop vibrating, making it seem like the wheel is going to rip out of your hands, then this is a potential indicator of major tire problems. It indicates that your tires are ill-positioned or
your shock absorbers are near the end of their usefulness. If your tires have a non-uniform pattern, that is another sign it’s time for new tires.
5. Watch for Punctures
One of the main problems people face while driving is getting punctures in their tires, such as from nails on the roads or any sharp objects. Try to
inspect your tires after each drive and if you notice a puncture or any sharp object in your tire, take it to your nearest tire or repair shop or else this small incision can result in a flat tire or something worse.
By educating yourself with these tips, you should realize that carrying a spare tire is a necessity and that your local tire shop is ready to help stay on the road with the right rubber for your vehicle.
