This Deranged Looking Lunatic Is The VW Golf GTi TCR
Auto News
This deranged looking lunatic is actually the VW Golf GTi TCR, it’s targeted at C-category tin top racing car championships. To accommodate for this championship Volkswagen Motorsports have built 20 race track prepared versions. Unsurprisingly all 20 have been sold to customers who will enter them into the specifically developed TCR International Race Series. The TCR Championship had its inaugural year in 2015 where VW entered a few races with a development prototype of the GTi TCR. The 2016 GTi TCR is now fully developed to compete in a full season of the TCR International Series and yes it will look like that. The VW GTi is powered by a 2.0-litre 325bhp engine derived from the Golf R. VW-Golf-GTi-TCR-Rear Throw in a sequential gearbox, stripped out interior with roll-cage, a massive rear wing and a chassis that is 40cm wider than a standard Golf  GTi and you have meanness defined. The Golf GTi was co-developed with the help of Seat Sports who created the Seat Leon Cup Racer. Much of the Golf GTi TCR’s attitude is down to this joint collaboration between these sister brands. Volkswagen haven’t revealed how much this track only GTi will cost but word on the street is it may well be in the region of around £85k GBP. For those who can not afford such a price tag VW has created road going version called the Golf GTi Club Sport but it’s detuned in the engine department to around 265bhp. And it looks less dramatic than the GTi TCR. Both Golf GTi TCR and Club Sport edition may be full of useless acronyms but for VW it’s a chance to celebrate 40 years of the GTi brand.  VW-Golf-GTi-TCR-Front
