The Age of The Sickest Ever McLaren Has Ended
Uncategorized
If you read the McLaren P1 press release, and we will spare you the verbosity, the P1 has come to a typically efficient end. The 375th example has now been completed and with it signals the end of one of the most advanced Supercars/Hypercars ever made. Actually its not the end only the beginning of a new era of hybrid supercars, the P1 will go down in automotive history as being one of the first to draw a line in the sand and then crossing it without mercy. Production started in 2013, all 375 examples were sold out before the first car was constructed and delivered. A team of 61 engineers took 17 days to make each P1 model at a production rate of 1 per day. The rear-wheel-drive P1 houses a rear-mid engine 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 which delivers 727bhp, combined with the electric motor the total output is close to 903bhp and 978Nm of torque and all that power is accessed via a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox. Naturally straightline performance is swift, 0-62mph in 2.8 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 214mph. Unrestricted the P1 can actually reach 247mph. The P1 will delight new-aged tech geeks because it has an all electric mode range of 6.2 miles. Cost? £1 million GBP, more if you add the extra levels of bespoke trim that many P1 customers opted for. We would like to take the time to salute you, McLaren P1, you have risen and you have enthralled, now its time to get the hell out of the way for your inevitable successor. Whenever that may be. McLaren-P1-GTR But that’s not the end of the story, P1 Production is still on-going. McLaren’s marketing department have found a celebratory loophole and have decided to stretch the P1 story out as long as they can before it snaps. The P1 will continue further production but it will be in the form of the track only P1 GTR and will be limited to 35 examples. Only the customers who bought the original P1 will be invited to buy the P1 GTR. Unveiled at the 2015 Geneva motorshow the P1 GTR will be a £1.9 million GBP bonkers crazy last hurrah before a bonkers crazy and inevitable replacement is announced. The P1 GTR is reputed to fire out close to 1,000bhp, will have a reduction in weight and feature F1 levels of technology.  McLaren-P1-Production-Ends
