Bentley has been busy pressing the flesh with the motoring press as they launch the Bentayga this week with a series of media driving day events. While we were invited to attend we had to decline, attending a media driving event can be a little like a heard of cattle being prodded by the electric pole. We were actually watching the Blu Ray edition of Postman Pat so we were being productive with our precious time. Any-who Bentley wants to ramp up the publicity drive for their first ever SUV, the Volkswagen based Bentayga has got something the Toureg will never have. The Bentley badge and heritage, that back-story really is worth the £160k GBP Bentley are asking its high net worth clients for the Bentayga. The first 608 clients who decide they can’t live without the Bentayga SUV will be treated to a special edition of what Bentley is calling “the most powerful, most luxurious, most exclusive and fastest SUV in the world”. Bentley also call it the Bentayga First Edition and it will be decked out with ultra-luxury touches like unique Union Jack badging, illuminated treadplates and 22” black painted and polished wheels. Exclusivity also extends to the choice of exterior colors, just ten  are offered, which Bentley say highlights the exclusivity of the model. We say Bentley are being tight-wads. Bentley interiors are the best in the world and it makes us here at DCB Towers burst with British pride. Luxurious trimmings to the cabin include ‘Diamond within Diamond’ quilting, bespoke ambient lighting, unique contrast stitching and embroidery. The detailing in metal, wood and leather – including “meticulous” tolerances between elements of trim – sets a new standard in automotive design. Each of the First Edition customers will receive a unique Breitling Cockpit B50 special-edition chronographs which feature integrated emergency dual frequency personal locator beacon. This is what Bentley’s have always been about, pure luxury. Well no, not really Bentley’s have been about power and performance and in this area the Bentayga doesn’t flinch in the same way it doesn’t flinch on luxury. Bentley is producing 608 Bentayga First Edition models as this number marks the metric power output of the Bentayga 608 PS (600 bhp / 447kW) and 900 Nm (663 lb. ft). The Bentayga is powered by an all-new twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre W12 engine which detonates that 608 PS (600 bhp / 447kW) and 900 Nm (663 lb. ft) to deliver a 0-60 mph time in 4.0 seconds (0-100 km/h in 4.1 seconds) and a top speed of 187 mph (301 km/h). So that’s why Bentley are saying the Bentayga is the world’s most powerful and fastest SUV, Bentley’s have always been heavyweights with lighting fast performance credentials, and the Bentayga seems to live up to this.
