Out With Old In With The New Hyundai/Kia Head of Design
Industry News
Peter Schreyer is currently the Head of Design for Hyundai and Kia, if you don’t know who Schreyer is then think of him like the Jonny Ive of the automotive design world. Schreyer penned the original Audi TT and has been responsible for overseeing the design aggression over at the two South Korean brands for the last 10 years. But all good things must come to an end and at 62 Schreyer is expected to retire within the next two years. The German design veteran can look back at a distinguished career and be satisfied he made a valuable contribution to the design world and popular culture. Few designers get to this level. So now the attention turns to his successor and industry rumors are pointing to another VW design veteran, Luc Donckerwolke. Donckerwolke began his automotive design career at Peugeot in 1990, for the last 23 years he has worked at the VW group. Donckerwolke’s design career is no less impressive than Schreyer’s, the 49 year old Belgian is fluent in eight languages including Swahili and his design skills are equally as fluent. For example Donckerwolke designed the Lamborghini Murcielago, Gallardo and for the past three years he has been the Director of Design for Bentley overseeing the the design of future models. However Donckerwolke left the Volkswagen group in June 2015 his current status is unknown and this has led to speculation that he is headed East and South Korea is his next destination. According to reports Donckerwolke is expected to move to South Korea in the next few months and will take over Schreyer’s role when the latter eventually decides to step down.    Peter-Schreyer
