Fernando Alonso Concussed After Crash During F1 Test
Formula One
Fernando Alonso’s second McLaren stint hasn’t started as well as he had hoped, the Spaniard crashed heavily in a pre-season test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on Sunday at 12:35 local time. Alonso’s crash occurred at the circuit’s most fearsome corner, Turn Three is taken at speeds in excess of 150mph and the two times F1 champion lost control of his McLaren as he exited the corner hitting the wall. Alonso was extracted still conscious and was said to be talking to the medical crew around him when he was extracted from his car and airlifted to hospital. After undergoing tests he was declared uninjured but suffering from concussion and remained in hospital overnight as a precautionary measure. Alonso’s hospital stay has been extended as of Monday as the Spaniard is required to undergo further medical checks before doctors declare him fit enough to leave. McLaren issued a statement saying Alonso is “fine”, racing director Eric Boullier added: “Fortunately, he’s fine, but was concussed during the accident, which therefore required an overnight stay. While the car wasn’t particularly badly damaged, it was enough of an impact to warrant quite a lengthy check of the gearbox and power unit systems.” Sebastian Vettel was behind Alonso at the time of the crash and said the McLaren driver turned right into the wall and that the incident looked “strange”. McLaren are having a poor start to the pre-season test, reliability issues in particular with the Honda engine is curtailing the teams effort to get ready for the first race of the season in Australia.  Fernando-Alonso-Pre-Season-Crash-2015
